EVE takes place in both a modern day Earth and a fantastical afterlife called “The Shore”, or as some like to say, Purgatory. Your character is recently deceased, full of regret, and now recently revived, trying to make a place for themselves in this bizarre new world. One thing leads to another, and before long, you find yourself as an inexperienced half-9to5-employee, half-hero within a fledgling start-up led by (un)living legends.
ㅤㅤ

You are now an ARBITER...
𝄆ㅤTasked with handling the countless strange and mundane affairs the living cannot.
𝄆 ㅤAnd contracted under a marching band-esque agency they call the Eventide Encore.
Your journey has just begun... and yet, you have an inkling it'll feel like that over and over and over again.

OUR WORLD HAS NOT STOOD ALONE.IT HAS BEEN GUARDED BY THE UNDEAD.

For the past century… or so is said, the living world has been guarded from things that should not exist. Ravenous remnants reeking of death. Creatures born from imbalance, from the fractures between life and whatever lies beyond it.And standing between them and us are not soldiers, nor even saints in the traditional sense,
but human souls. The departed.
Those who have already lived, already died, and yet chose— or were chosen— to return.
They wield abilities that defy logic, powers that seem conjured from your wildest dreams, powers that can only really be thought of by human imagination! That, and the curious ability of being unable to be brought down by death.Coming back, over and over, and over and over…
however many times it takes.
These protectors are known as ARBITERs.
Tasked with hunting what’s slipped through and restoring what’s been disturbed, they are agents from the Great Beyond. Their lives have ended, yes, but their purpose has not.
The modern-day superhero, one could say.
ㅤㅤ
And you?
Thanks to them, you’ve likely gone about your days untouched. Safe. Unbothered.
Maybe you were even saved by one in your lifetime.
Maybe you’ve never even thought about them at all.

AND SO,
YOU COME TO AN END.

It is human nature to regret.… You are still human, then, when you find yourself in a
place that is neither light nor dark, despite the fact that you have no body.
Implicitly, you know you are dead.In this liminal space, something reaches out to you- not quite a voice, but speaking all the same.
Do you want to try again?
In that moment, all that you’ve failed to achieve in your life flashes in your mind. Every loss, every frustration, every dream just barely out of reach- it resounds in painful echoes, until you are back in endless silence that awaits a response.
… Whether vocally or deep down, your answer is YES.
When you open your eyes, you find yourself somewhere tangible- maybe a forest, maybe a beach- or maybe in some sort of bureau where horned and winged people in neat uniforms welcome you to “The Shore”. Whatever it may be, you’ve found yourself in a place beyond death, and maybe you’re a little different then how you remember yourself- if you remember anything at all.Whether you’ve arrived here last month or yesterday, an advertisement for a startup Arbiter Company by the name of ‘The Eventide Encore’ catches your eye. Maybe you just desperately need a job, or maybe you fancy yourself a hero.Whatever the reason may be, you find yourself
making towards an operahouse where your story will truly begin.

Soo... Let's get things straight...

You are DEAD. Like, DEAD dead.
You came, you died, you concurred.
It hasn’t been long since your death and your subsequent arrival to death’s harbor— no more than a month if anyone’s really counting. Whether or not you remember the events that have led up to this very moment is hard to say... Regardless, you are dead, and something in your soul is keeping itself tethered to existence. That little something is regret.
Now, you are a vessel for it. Should you wish to quell it or let it empower you, you at least know that there's a reason you're here.WHERE IS HERE, ANYHOW?

Welcome to The Shore! 𓂃 𓈒𓏸

The Shore (or Purgatory), despite sounding fantastical and being a place filled with ‘demons’ and ‘angels’, is a lot like Earth. It has blue skies, modern comforts, different nations, countless cultures, and capitalism. Your world is now a large continuous archipelago, ⅛ the size of Earth and surrounded by an endless sea. Still, it's a pretty big place, home to multiple countries with city-states' worth of denizens. More importantly, it's home to YOU, and there's a high chance you're currently lost on what to do and where to go.𝄆ㅤㅤSo... What now?You find yourself stranded in the Shore's very core, its capital city-state Asphodel, and... Right, so remember that TEENSY little bit about capitalism we mentioned there? Yes, so the Shore has its own economy... its own currency... bills to pay, and whatnot... You can't simply live by just, well, LIVING. That much makes it incredibly similar to the living realm. Not to worry, as purgatory's very own Thalassocrate has long ago established a functioning integration system for those newly deceased with nowhere to go!
ㅤ
For a few weeks, fresh decedents are taught the basics, given afterlife insurance, signing papers for a temporary place to stay... Though, not everything in death comes for free. By getting adjusted to your new life in purgatory, it seems you've accumulated some GOVERNMENT DEBT. What this means is you now owe the Thalassocrate money for... well, them helping you exist, silly you!
Oooh, YIKES, you're going to need a JOB to pay off all that debt... OOH... if ONLY there was a company looking to hire newly deceased such as yourselves (without taking advantage of your situation, of course!)... that would be, like, REALLY convenient...
ㅤ
LUCKILY FOR YOU, the Eventide Encore, a brand-new, start-up arbiter agency, is hiring! Open to decedents of the newest generation!

What does eve even do?

Well... We're ARBITERs! :J
As you may or may not already know, ‘Arbiter’ is a title specifically given to decedents who cross over to Earth in order to protect the living... mostlys. Nowadays, for better or for worse, being an Arbiter is a lucrative job. The gratitude and prayers of the people they save on earth manifests in the form of various spoils, ranging from coin, physical objects, or power itself. With modern ideas making their way onto The Shore, Arbiter work is typically carried out by organized companies with varying goals.
We at the Eventide Encore acknowledge that there is some, if not a lot, of merit and gain to be had in becoming an arbiter. But, you know... It didn't use to be like this! There were times of CHIVALRY, times where being an arbiter MEANT something! It was a noble sacrifice, once! And... sure perhaps it still is, but it's lost all the shine and shimmer of its former glory, tainted by greed and hubris never seen in the generations of past. But YOU! No... We, us, together! We can restore that sanctity, can't we? You are noble as well, yes? You yearn to right wrongs, don't you?!𝄆ㅤㅤ"Ah, I wish I could've done something."Are those not the very words that resound and pound within your being?! The words that haunt you over and over and over?! Come, now! A new age of arbiters is upon us, and all of you from the newest generation of restless souls ARE INVITED TO OUR REVOLUTION!... So long as you remember one little thing.
While carrying out your duties in the land of the living, there is no turning back to the life you once had. Many arbiter-hopefuls forget that when they cross over to Earth, you see! Never lose sight of who you are and what you're here to do, yes, that's the Eventide motto! (It is not.)

That aside, we aren't the only folks in town to keep an eye on...

"Gahh... I'm still not really sure if I want to join you guys...?"

We understand... all this information is probably a doozy for you, isn't it? What on earth is so good about being an arbiter?! I don't want to fight monsters, or be noble, or really... be dead! Why should I have to do all these weird jobs just to exist in this world?! (AH, SUCH IS LIFE)We HEAR you... WE EMPHATIZE WITH YOU! At the end of the day, wherever you choose to toil and spend your days miserably "on the grind" is a decision entirely in your hands... A ball entirely in your court! There are other ways to pay off those debts of yours, that's for sure... No, it's okay, it's not like we're offering anything ridiculous like a more-than-generous salary, comfortable on-site accommodations (completely rent-free with all living expenses paid for), a host of excellent amenities, or even free dental...... What?! You're interested now?! Why didn't you say that earlier, you silly goose?
ㅤ
Still, though, beneath all the theatrics, there is something we'd like to say in earnest! The Eventide Encore may be a legitimate start-up in every sense of the word, but we do genuinely believe things can be... better. That there's a lot of leeway for improvement in terms of how we do things around here. Better for the arbiter industry. For Asphodel. Better for the Shore itself!
It's a silly and childish ambition, perhaps, but surely you've felt that same frustration before.
And if it meant starting over a second, third, fourth— or even a billionth— time... If it meant taking one more chance in hopes that your efforts could matter...𝄆ㅤWouldn't it all have been worth it?Ahem! So, if you deem your heart noble enough, your wallet penniless, and your interest piqued,
please consider sending us at the Eventide Encore your application today!

About the Group

The Eventide Encore (EVE) is a Discord-based 20+ RP group that follows modern characters in a fresh take on a maritime Purgatory, where its inhabitants choose to either quell their life's regrets or accept the new one they've been given. In that journey— however it may happen— they eventually seek out a job at the titular company, where they hope to work as an Arbiter that fights both Abyssals and whatever shouldn't exist across both the land of the dead and the world of the living. Perhaps in their new lifestyle and among their new peers they’ll find fulfillment they never reached in life, or maybe they’re just trying to get by. Either way, there’s a shift happening in The Shore, and whether you like it or not, you’ll be caught up in it.
ㅤ
𝄆ㅤThe group will use Tupperbox, and mostly follow a Live RP format for its story events, typically scheduled around 5PM PST. Though we can adjust where and when we can, that’s the time that works best for us mods.
That being said, if there’s an interest in asynchronous RPs, then we might run some events like such! There will of course be other opportunities to interact with the world outside of main events, so don’t stress too much about needing to always be available for them.
𝄆ㅤThough not a sandbox, EVE will be a longer term RP, so make sure it interests you to play in our setting for a while. We won't be rushing the story we want to tell alongside you! Currently, we are aiming to have one main story event that everyone can participate in per month, and optional mini event roleplays in between main events. Right now, we’re not sure how long the plot will take as it highly depends on where our players steer it, but we've planned out at least half a year’s worth of story.𝄆ㅤWe’re expecting to take about 20-30 people, depending on how many applicants we think would make a good fit. As much as we wish we could accept everyone who’s interested, any more than that would be too much for us to handle GMing in a satisfying manner. Thank you for your understanding!

MOD TEAM

Similarly to the in-canon company, EVE is ran by a humble team of two! Please be kind to us! Or don't...
Everything you've seen and read has been made by us in collaboration, unless said otherwise!
